Technology

Herodotus is a patented technology for storing digital data. Herodotus data storage technology has the following advantages:
  • Herodotus uses Write Once Read Many media access (WORM)
  • All previous versions of the data are always accessible
  • Currently, Herodotus uses an append-only file on a traditional disk as its WORM medium
  • Append-only file format enables excellent Reliability
  • Append-only files are easy to mirror, giving Herodotus excellent Scalability

What Herodotus technology provides is a set of highly efficient algorithms for simulating overwrite operations on WORM media. So at the application level, the software believes that it is working with a traditional Write Many Read Many (WMRM) medium, but at a lower level the storage medium only needs to support append operations. The goal of the Herodotus algorithms is to provide the WMRM to WORM mapping with as little overhead as possible.
